I hope you are having a restful summer and enjoying time with your family and friends. My eldest son Morgan was married last year on 12/12/12, the luckiest day. He now lives in California and he will be coming home for a visit the end of the month. I am really looking forward to spending time with him. My son Taylor works in the office with me now. He has a Bachelors degree in Counseling and is presently in Graduate School at Seton Hall University. My daughter Brett is studying at Wesley College and has a scholarship and stipend for Graduate School studying Bio-Chemistry. Basically the children have grown into adults and are all doing very well. In this newsletter I wanted to share some recent results and my conclusion to planning a trip for a couple to Niagara Falls. I decided to take my Fiance' to Niagara falls for his birthday in August. My first approach to planning any trip has always been to check a website called hotwire.com. Usually I would check airfare alone, and then either stay with family or use one of my timeshare units and stay for a week. This time, we are only going for a couple of days. So I decided to try Hotwire's trip planner. This included airfare, hotel for 2 nights and a rental car for the duration of the vacation. The total cost for a trip for two was as low as $630. Of course this wasn't at the best hotel, or the most convenient travelling time. So I decided to pay a bit more to travel at different times and stay in a nicer hotel. Total cost for two increased to $774.
My fiance' wanted me to check and compare prices with the bus, the train , and just old fashioned driving ourselves. Surprisingly the prices weren't that different when I added on a car rental and hotel stay to a bus and train trip. It was less expensive to drive, but still the gas alone was $150, and adding on a decent hotel for two nights was another $300. But the thought of driving 8 hours each way, to take a two day vacation really wasn't worth the aggravation. So I did make the plans with Hotwire.com trip planner, and I am very pleased.
As far as business is concerned, the summer has been busy with many new elders entering rehab centers after falls, and home care needs following the rehabilitative care. If you or a loved one needs home health care services, please call me at 718-442-2414. Our employment agency has wonderful skilled caring health care workers available on short notice. The hourly rate is $11 an hour, live in 24 hour care is $143 a day. It is higher for couples, but still much more affordable than most home health agencies. We charge an agency fee weekly. For more information please check out our website Aginghomecare.com. If you need home care please print out the employer contract from the site and fax it to me. All of my Social Services are available at HollyGemme.com. I can assist with Medicaid eligibility counseling, Medicaid applications, Medicaid Annuities, Special Needs pooled trusts, Nursing home and Assisted Living placements, and Case Management. All of these services are explained in detail on the website. Call me if you or a friend, family member or loved one needs help. Finally, I am now the Director of a non profit agency, The National Chamber of Commerce for Women in Elder Care. Please check out this website too for helpful general information on services available to the elderly, NCCWeldercare.com. I look forward to catching up with you and hearing from you soon.
