Elderly dating
No matter what age, people need to have someone special in their lives. It may just be a special friendship, or a physical connection. After a certain age, elderly may lose their special person to death or illness or dementia. The places to meet and make new connections are less available due to physical disability or lack of driving abilities. Nowadays even elders are looking to dating sites on the Internet to make connections. There are certain sites specifically for elders to meet other elders. Unfortunately there are also deceptive people lurking on these sites ready to take advantage of lonely and isolated elders. Many are people who are not even elderly themselves.
Some people on these sites are really looking for love, and a long-term committed relationship. Others are looking to take advantage of the kindness and loneliness of the man or woman they are flirting with. A few years ago after divorce, a friend of mine joined dating sites. There were several men who did not want to meet, merely wanted a pen pal relationship, or a chat online relationship which inevitably leads to racy talks. She was not interested in any of that. She wanted a real man to meet and go on dates and have a committed relationship with. She had two different men ask her for money, quite a large amount of money, though she had never met them. They were sweet talkers until she said no to loaning/giving them in excess of $5000 each. When she refused they suddenly disappeared from the pen pal messages and chat lines.
As it turned out, she met a real wonderful guy a few years ago. But for the millions of elders on these dating sites, they are desperate to find a special person to complete their life into old age. The elders have lived a productive life and are now looking to relax, travel and enjoy their retirement. The only thing lacking is a special someone to share these tranquil years with.
Some people are willing to travel far and wide for that special person, only to find that they wasted their time, money and emotions on the wrong person. My suggestions for dating as far as elders are concerned is to stay off of the dating sites completely. I feel the old fashioned way of meeting in person or being introduced by a common friend is always best. I suggest joining a gym, or a special interests group, or even the church or synagogue or temple. And of course spread the word among your friends that you are looking for someone special. You are more likely to walk away with the love of your life this way than on the dating sites where too many times someone is deceiving you or themselves about their looks, age and abilities. So stay in touch with your friends always, as they are your connection to life-time partners in the future.
Warmly, Holly
